Plays on social evils staged in Bandipora
SUHAIL AJMAL
Bandipora, Sep 14: In an attempt to reflect the political and social issues through thematic theatre, a Jammu based theatre group Natrang in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday staged two plays here.
The plays ‘Girgit’ depicting the efforts of police department to curb the social evils and ‘Choona Hain Asmaan’ showing an urge of youth to come out of the chaos and confusion, were staged in the Sports Stadium here. Large number of people witnessed the plays
“The main aim of the stage show is to put across message to youth who are either indulged in social evils or are victims of political chaos or confusion. Theatre is age old mass communication medium and we are making efforts to reach out the people especially youth to understand the reality. Awareness is must for young ones otherwise some elements take advantage of it by deviating their minds,” Superintendent of Police Bandipora Bashir Ahmed Khan said.
The plays staged by the Natrang group with support of cultural wing of district Education department, highlighted the vices that have surged in the society including drug addiction among the youth which is proving detrimental for the society. Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Manzoor Ahmed maintained that the plays were not merely for entertainment.
“The plays have a message for the youth. I appeal the parents to spare time for their wards. The first school of child is lap of his or her mother. It is the duty of parents to look after the genuine needs of their wards. They have to understand and talk to children in their language.”
