Jammu, Sep 15: Heavy rains wreak havoc across Jammu region on Thursday killing one person and damaging three residential structures.
 The incessant rain from the wee hours of Thursday till the evening in most parts of the region brought the entire life to standstill. The rain also took commuters to surprise in Jammu city, which witnessed around 84.6 mm rainfall during first two hours.
 Doda, Kishtwar and Rajouri districts of the region, however, witnessed the heaviest rainfall and reports of damage to the residential houses were also pouring in.
 Official sources said that the rain spelt misery for many farmers as it devastated standing crop, fruit orchards and vegetable crops at many places.
 In border district of Rajouri, a villager, identified as Muhammad Shafi son of Muhammad Din, was drowned in a nallah. The villager was crossing the nallah when it was hit by a flash flood, sources said adding, his body was later recovered about two kilometers away from the site of the incident.
 Three residential houses also suffered damage due to the rain fall in Kandi area of the district, they added.
 The traffic on Srinagar-Jammu Highway and Batote-Kishtwar Highway remained unaffected despite the rain. Officials said that the traffic may be suspended only in case of any report of landslides along the highway.
