Delhi retains NZ U-14 championship title

Srinagar Sep 21: Salilh Malhotra’s fine knock of 120 runs earned Delhi second time the crown of North Zone Inter-State U14 Cricket Tournament on Wednesday at SK Cricket Stadium Srinagar.
Delhi smashed 251 runs for five in 95 overs on the second day to grab the first innings lead of 72 runs against Himachal Pradesh final match of the two-day format tournament.
Salil Malhotra remained unbeaten on 120 runs while has he was ably supported by Jonty Sidhu who contributed 54 runs in reply to Himachal Pradesh’s first innings score of 179 runs.
Earlier on the opening day, Himachal Pradesh won the toss and decided to bat first. They were reduced to 179 runs only in 69.2 overs. For Delhi Shieamw Mavi claimed four while as Pranav Arora took three wickets to restrict Himachal to a low total on the Day 1. For Himachal Ritwiz hit 41 runs, Shubam Arora scored 39 while as Mudit scored 32 runs.
However, Himachal Pradesh got hopes of retaining the title on the opening day after reducing Delhi to 54 for two runs in 30 overs before the Day 1was called off.
Delhi received the first jolt when it opener Aryan was run on when the score was only five runs in four overs.
However on the second day, Delhi batsmen especially Salil Malhotra ensured that their team earns the lead to retain the title.
Jonty Sidhu who scored 373 runs and scalped 11 wickets in the tournament was declared as man of the series. He was awarded Rs 10,000. The centurion boy Salil Malhotra was adjudged man of the match. He was awarded Rs 2,500. The prizes were distributed by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association Treasuere Manzoor Ahmad Wazir, Joint Secretary Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Vice Chairman Javaid Ahmad Kitab and Chairman Selection Committee Rouf Ahmad.
The tournament featured Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir teams of the North Zone. This was the first ever tournament of U14 hosted by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.
