Farooq Abdullah invites US investments in renewable energy

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Sep 22: Union minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah invited investors to invest in renewable energy in India.
Speaking at an exclusive roundtable organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Chicago, USA, today, Dr. Abdullah said India was poised to become a global leader in the solar energy. He impressed upon the U.S. investors to invest in this sector in India.
Addressing investors, representatives of companies, universities and institutions at the CII roundtable, Dr. Abdullah urged them to explore technology-based partnerships and research collaborations with Indian counterparts.
He highlighted the outstanding research and business activity going on in India, especially with many states implementing their own solar energy generation plans under the National Solar Mission, a statement here said.
With an ambitious target to produce 30,000 MW solar power by 2022, India, he said, would open up tremendous business opportunities in the field.
The Minister noted that international joint activity would be key to generate synergies for both economies. “We are open to all kinds of business models – whether it is PPP or BOT, you tell us what you are comfortable with,” Dr. Abdullah said, offering full support from the Ministry of Renewable Energy, the Consulate General in Chicago as well as industry associations like CII.
Dr. Abdullah discussed ways to achieve economies of scale and cost reductions, which would be critical to deployment and wide spread commercialization.
