Islamabad (Anantnag), Sep 22: Senior PDP leader and MLA Shangus, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain has welcomed the decision of the Tourism Department to bring the picturesque Chattapal hamlet in Chattergul area under the purview of Kokernag-Achabal Tourism Development Authority (KATDA).
Inaugurating a tourist hut at Chattapal Thursday, Mansoor said that tourism is the “backbone” of the State’s economy and in Kashmir valley every village has the potential of becoming a tourist spot if adequate infrastructure like roads, drinking water supply, electricity and boarding and lodging facilities are provided.
He said the decision of Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora to bring Chattapal under the purview of Kokernag-Achabal Development Authority would go a long way in bringing the area on the State’s tourism map.
He said around 250 kanals have been earmarked in Chattapal area for the development of tourism infrastructure.
Mansoor said Chattapal has already two tourism huts and with the opening of the third hut, the visitors would not face any lodging problems although much more needs to be done to develop adequate infrastructure in the area.
Mansoor also visited several flood affected areas of Shangus constituency with a team of officers from Irrigation & Flood Control, PHE and Health Departments for on-the-spot assessment of losses caused by recent floods.
He assured immediate restoration of drinking water supply and electricity to the affected areas.
He announced Rs 30 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for various development works in the area.
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the large-scale damage caused by hailstorm this evening, Mansoor has demanded relief for the affected villages of his constituency including Uttersoo, Kriri, Sheikhpora, Cherpora, Ohpzan, Shergud, Krad, Chattergul, Rainipora, Brah and adjacent areas.
Mansoor during his tour visited Brakpora, Nunwani, Telwani, Issus, Wangam, Krad, Ranipora, Brah, Ahopysan, Dethu, Brisnoo, Chattergul, Sheikhpora, Cherpora, Uttersoo and Kiri.
