All Karewas to be brought under irrigation network: Taj
Shopian, Sep 23: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today announced that all karewas would be brought under irrigation network in the next five year plan for which necessary data collection is been done.
Addressing public meetings at Lajoora-Pulwama and Ramnagari-Shopian, the Minister said that Government is making efforts to extend drinking water distribution network to every nook and corner of the State.
The Minister said Government has embarked on an ambitious plan of strengthening infrastructure facilities and basic amenities in the State for which many schemes and programmes have been launched. He sought cooperation from people in the successful implementation of these schemes.
The Minister announced that historic Shahkul at Shopian has been repaired and renovated at a cost of Rs. 5.77 crore and water would be released into it within few days. He said the 8.3 km canal has a cultivable command area of 960 hectare and it would provide irrigation facilities to the all adjoining areas. Similarly, he said, the Dubji and Lar canals are being repaired and gate installed to prevent from floods and encroachments.
