Botshah Mohalla Lalbazar complains of defunct drains

SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI

Srinagar, Sep 26: The residents of Botshah Mohalla Lal Bazar have complained that the drainage system has blocked because of which sewage overflows.
The residents said the sewage overflow has caused dampness in the houses and there was every possibility that the building structures may collapse if immediate remedial measures are not taken.
The residents said they had informed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation authorities about the issue but no action was taken.
Official records reveal that the Secretary Srinagar Municipal Corporation has shot a letter to the Superintending Engineer Drainage Circle SMC. “This office is in receipt of complaint from Meiraj Ud Din Misgar R/O Botshah Mohalla Lal Bazar opposite JK Bank stating therein that due to blockade of drain the rain water accumulates to their house causing  inconvenience for the residents,” reads a copy of the letter vide No SMC/PS/Secy/946-48 dated 20-8-2011.
“Your are requested to please look into the matter and depute an engineer for on spot inspection and redressal of grievance under an intimation to this office,” the letter adds.
But till now, the residents said, no action has been taken on ground. They appealed the SMC Commissioner, Sheikh Mushtaq to look into the matter.
