Iqbal Sports knocks out Maharaja on way to final
SAIFUDDIN MEMORIAL FOOTBALL TOURNEY
Srinagar, Sep 26: In a clash between two top private clubs of the State Iqbal Sports came out as triumphant over Maharaja Sports by 3-1 in a semi-final of the ongoing Saifuddin Memorial Football Tournament at SP College ground here on Monday.
Iqbal Sports and Maharaja Sports are reckoned as top two private clubs of the State and the match was considered as being clash for supremacy. The match was also considered as re-match of Super-league c lash between the two sides in which Maharaja had ousted Iqbal by beating later in a crucial tie.
As expected, the match turned out as high paced grueling encounter and both teams were looking for the early goals. Maharaja were the first one to open account through penalty stroke strike in 25th minute of the game. Imran was the scorer. At the end of first half Maharaja were leading by 1-0.
In the second half Iqbal Sports stepped up their attack and were able to equalise in 65th minute. Shabir was the scorer. After that no goal was scored and the end of allotted time score was level at 1-1.
After that match went into extra time, it was Iqbal Sports which dominated the proceedings and scored two back to back goals. Atif scored second goal for them through penalty after Firdous of Maharaja was booked red card for dangerous tackle inside penalty area. In the concluding minutes of the games high flying striker Imran Manzoor Wangnoo made result in total favour of Iqbal Sports by scoring third goal. Iqbal won match by 3-1. With this win Iqbal booked their place in the final of the event.
The event is being organised by SP College in collaboration with J&K Football Association.
