Gymkhana beat ACC, lift title
10TH MIRZA NOOR-UD-DIN CRICKET TOURNAMENT
Srinagar Sep 27: Kashmir Gymkhana lifted the 10th Mirza Noor-ud-din Memorial Cricket Trophy beating ACC Reds by seven wickets in the final played at SK Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.
Waseem Raza scalped five wickets to help his team restrict ACC on a modest total of 168 runs in 39.2 overs. ACC after winning the toss were bowled out on 168 runs in 40th over. Asif Khan remained unbeaten on 54 runs. For Kashmir Gymkhana Waseem took five while as Zahoor Sofi claimed two . Sami-ullah Beigh and Sajid took one wicket each. In reply, Gymkhana made romped home easily in 27.4 overs while losing only three wickets.
Waseem Raza was declared man of the match for his bowling and was awarded Rs 5000. The winners were given Rs 75,000 and the runners bagged Rs 50,000. Fayaz Hazzaray of Sangam Reds who scored 296 runs and claimed three wickets was given man of the series trophy. He also walked away with Rs 10,000.
The 10th Mirza Noor-ud-din Memorial Invitational Cricket Tournament-2011 was formally inaugurated by President Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah in June this year. In all, 79 matches including qualifying rounds were played in the tournament out of which 64 matches were played at Kashmir University Ground and the rest were played at SK Cricket Stadium Srinagar besides a couple of matches that were played at SP College Ground. The tournament was sponsored and organized by Amateur Cricket Club.
Initially, the tournament featured 48 affiliated teams. However, after seeing the great interest by other teams also more 32 teams were included in the tournament. Qualifying rounds were arranged and only 16 teams were incorporated in the regular fixture.
In the tournament, Adil Reshi has scored 183 runs in one match against Pulwama which is the highest individual score in the tournament. Also, Riyaz of District Islamabad took seven wickets against PCC Pattan in eight overs while giving away just 19 runs.
