Common seniority
This refers to views expressed by Dr Gopal from GMC Jammu. MFA appreciates his concern so far as sufferings of basic sciences and para-clinical departments of GMC Srinagar are concerned. He and few others he represents need to note that from year 2000 to 2005, 17 faculty members from GMC Jammu, appointed/promoted on GMC Srinagar posts in basic sciences failed to join at GMC Srinagar even though the situation in Kashmir had shown marked improvement. These include 5 faculty members in Physiology, 4 each in Pathology & Blood bank , 1 each in SPM, Forensic medicine, Anatomy and Pharmacology and the faculty positions affected by their non-joining, included Professors 2,Associate Professors 4, Assistant Professors 6 and Lecturers 4. So it is for every body to appreciate that the sufferings of basic sciences at GMC Srinagar at present are the ill affects of Common Seniority which existed before 2006. Dr Gopal also needs to note that only 4 faculty members of GMC Srinagar have moved out as Migrants (2 in O&G, 1 each in pediatrics and pharmacology). MFA of GMC Srinagar knows how to secure interests of GMC and its faculty and they need no advice on this. MFA has highlighted before Govt the progress made by GMC Srinagar 2006, be it Academics, MCI recognition, improvement in faculty positions or Postgraduate intake. MFA is vigorously pleading before Govt to implement Current MCI norms. The author’s knowledge with regards to MCI norms and appointments made under academic arrangements also needs to be updated. As per current MCI norms Faculty members can work as teaching faculty members of both under and post graduates up to 65 years and as such all academic arrangements to be made by Govt will prove fruitful with respect to MCI recognitions for post graduate courses.
