Apologise to rape victims: Tarigami to government
Srinagar: Reacting strongly to the revelation of details about rape victims furnished by the government, CPI (M) State secretary and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami has termed the government move as “secondary victimization” of rape victims.
In a statement, Tarigami asked the government to apologize to all the rape victims in the House. “It is not only dissolute and unethical, but it means the government has ruined their left over dignity and honour in the society. Simply, the government has ruined their life,” Tarigami said.
He added that the government by disclosing the names of rape victims had degraded the honour and sanctity of the House, but had also acted in contempt of Supreme Court, which had categorically banned disclosure of names of rape victims even after their death.
