Srinagar, Sep 29: Congress Thursday indirectly blamed, Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone, for disruptions caused by the party in the Assembly yesterday which led to stalling of clemency resolution of parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru, saying had the Speaker revealed identity of the expelled BJP legislators they would have called off the protests.
“During Business Advisory Committee meeting yesterday afternoon, the speaker assured us of revealing the identity of the expelled BJP legislators. But their names were not disclosed which forced us to continue with the protest,” Congress legislator, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, told a press conference here soon after the party legislators staged walked out from the House. “Had their names been revealed we would have called off the protests,” he said.
Meanwhile, the party today demanded an independent investigation into cross voting by the expelled BJP legislators during polls to Legislative Council held earlier this year to go to bottom of the “corruption scam”, soon after Speaker State Assembly, Muhammad Akbar Lone, revealed their identity in the House.
