Municipal polls after delimitation

Srinagar, Sep 29: The State Government on Thursday said polls for local urban bodies would be held after completion of delimitation of newly created Municipal Committees and Council.
In a written reply to the query of Bharatiya Janta Party legislator, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that Chief Electoral Officer of the state has intimated that “The elections of Urban Local Bodies can be conducted only after the completion of delimitation of the newly created Municipal Committees/ Councils.”
“The delimitation exercise is being carried out in respect of the Municipal Committees/ Councils wherever new area/ areas have been excluded/included,” the reply says.
It also says Housing and Urban Development department vide communication No.LSG/k/113/2006 dated 07-07-2011 has conveyed the directions of the State Government to the chief electoral officer to initiate and complete the process of delimitation of wards and preparations of electoral rolls for holding of elections to the urban local bodies.
