Wangnoo stresses for HBOA meeting on Sept 18

‘Through premature election bid, black sheep want to skip accountability’

Srinagar, Sept 6: The caretaker Chairman of Houseboats Owners Association Manzoor Ahmed Wangnoo on Tuesday reiterated that the association elections would be “duly held after the General Body meeting scheduled to be held on September 18 at Chinar Bagh.” He added that some “black sheep were trying to sabotage the process aimed at bringing transparency and management of the affairs in line with the HBOA constitution.”
Wangnoo who had already notified the date for General Body meeting last month said the meeting was must so that all the stakeholders sit and decide about the future course of action on elections and also get the accounts verified.
“Scrutiny of accounts is pending for long even though I had asked for it many times. Being head of the association I cannot act as mute spectator but need to get the books duly verified so that there’s no hanky-panky into the spendings and holdings,” he said.
Wangnoo said the honesty of an organization is firstly measured by the clarity of accounts. “If the accounts are in mess then the entire fraternity gets a bad name.”
Without naming anyone Wangnoo said “some elements in the HBOA want to go for premature elections only so that any bungling into the accounts could be swept under the carpet.”
“Otherwise, why would they force for premature elections when the General Body meeting is to beheld only a week later?” he argued.
Referring to the recent resolution  of houseboat owners that the elections be held only after the September 18 meeting, Wangnoo said the HBOA duly endorses the viewpoint.
“The holding of General Body meeting is a must and very much in compliance of the HBOA constitution so we can neither ignore it nor do without it,” he added.
Wangnoo said he doesn’t want to “unduly continue on the chair.” “Nor have I ever wanted to put hurdles in the election process. I have been there till now because the fraternity wanted me to be there.”
“But as long as I am in chair I cannot make injustice happen with  the houseboat owners by getting the verification of accounts skipped simply to favour those who could have made personal fortune out of it,” Wangnoo said adding that the  money lying with the HBOA was the “blood and sweat of houseboat owners.”
“My point is very simple and clear. When we have already issued notification with regard to General Body meeting for holding of elections, why some people want to skip this vital meet? If this isn’t mischief of some black sheep then what is it?”
