Govt deliberately delaying selection of ICs: Mehbooba
Srinagar, Sep 7: Peoples Democratic Party president and leader of opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday alleged that “under a well planned conspiracy, the selection of Information Commissioners in State Information Commission was being delayed in the Jammu and Kashmir.”
Talking to KNS Mehbooba said, “I’m not able to understand why the selection meetings are being postponed every now and then. It is unfortunate that the government was not taking sensitive institution like SIC seriously. By doing so the government is doing injustice with the people who have lot of faith in the institution.”
Mehbooba who is also member of the selection Committee said the work of the Commission was immensely suffering in the absence of Information Commissioners.
While the government recommended G R Sofi as the first Chief Information Commissioner in January, it is yet to appoint the two Information Commissioners to establish the full-fledged SIC.
Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand who is also member of the selection Committee rejected the rumors that he intentionally missed its last meeting. “I had backache that day and doctors advised me to rest. Some people are giving political colour to it to settle scores with me,” he told KNS.
