PEOPLE AGHAST OVER FILTHY WATER SUPPLY
Bandipore: Contaminated water of the Athwatoo Nahalla and adjoining streams, mixed with animal and human waste, is being supplied to more than 30 villages of the town block in Bandipora district.
Residents in various villages like Kaloosa, Nathpora ,Ajar ,Ayhthmulla, Nowpora, Main Town, Nadihal, Ongam, Panzigam, Watapora, Qazipora, Leharwalpora and other adjoin villages are forced to drink contaminated and muddy water, directly flowing from Nallaha Athwatoo and other streams through pipes by the PHE department, endangering lives of people.
Though the authorities have installed a filtration plant, it usually remains non-functional as it does not have the capacity to filter the quantity of water being supplied to the villages. “Due to supply of contaminated water, there is apprehension of outbreak of an epidemic."
