Sheikh Abdullah’s death anniversary today

Srinagar, Sep 7: The 29th death anniversary of late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, founder of National Conference and former Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, is being observed on September 8, Thursday, across the state.
“Quran Khawani will be held at 8 AM at Sher-i-Kashmir Reading Room, Naseembagh Hazratbal. Later on, floral tributes and collective Fateh Khawani will be held at 9 AM.
Special functions are being held at district and Tehsil levels in all the three regions of state-Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh where NC leaders will pay rich tributes to their leader and highlight his historical achievements,” said a party spokesman in a statement, adding “a large function will also be organized at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, where speakers will throw a detailed light on the life and political and social services of late leader.”
Meanwhile, National Conference today said “the hartali politics was going to ruin the economy in the state.” “Hartali politics is in no way in peoples’ interest,” said the NC spokesman, appealing to the leaders who, according to him, are “pursuing the hartali politics, to desist from giving shutdown calls.”
The spokesman said even the most complicated problem could be resolved through talks. He appealed to the leaders of India and Pakistan to step up efforts to resolve Kashmir issue so that peace could be established in the subcontinent in general and Jammu Kashmir in particular.
