Open drains irk Soura residents
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Sept 8: Residents of Soura are facing huge inconvenience due to open drains in the area.
A delegation of residents of Soura Ghat and Ahmad Nagar told Greater Kashmir that drains constructed in the area have been left open, causing fears of mishaps. “We already suffered a lot due to construction of the drainage system from Ahmad Nagar to Soura Ghat. But now that the drains have been constructed, they have been left open,” they said.
The residents said everywhere drains are refilled with sand. “But in our localities, open drains are making it difficult for people to move out. During dry weather, we are unable to move out due to heavy dust emanating from the mud which has been excavated during the drainage construction. And when it rains, the marshy lanes confine us to our homes.”
Children and Musalees are the worst sufferers of this problem. “The state government must look into why the drains in these areas are not covered up. The open drains are posing a danger to the lives of people, especially children and aged persons,” the residents said.
