State cabinet discuss demands

Srinagar, Sep 8: The state cabinet Thursday discussed the employees’ demands, but couldn’t arrive at any decision as the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather is presently out of country.
The cabinet approved creation of more than 300 posts in health department to pave way for drawal of salary of contractual doctors against the vacant posts.
Sources told Greater Kashmir that the cabinet which met under the chairmanship of chief minister Omar Abdullah here approved creation of “these temporary posts” to adjust the doctors including dental surgeons.
 Sources said many doctors were engaged on contractual basis in the Health and Medical Education Department during past several years.
 During past two years, sources said the Public Service Commission made large number of appointments against the regular vacant posts. It paved way for claim by the PSC selected doctors over the vacant posts, which are being occupied by contractual doctors.
 To address the issue, sources said the cabinet approved the proposal for creation of above 300 posts in the Department for the drawal of salary of the contractual doctors.
 In another decision the cabinet gave nod to J&K Standard Weights and Measures Amendment Bill, which the Department for Legal Metrology is intending to table in the Legislative Assembly during the forthcoming session.
 Promotion of Farooq Ahmed Khan, Joint Director Geology and Mining, as Director of the Department, was also cleared by the cabinet. Besides creation of post of Additional Deputy Commissioner for Handwara also got the cabinet nod.
