1 dies, 20 wounded in Doda accident

Doda, Apr 10: One person died and at least 20 others were wounded when a SRTC bus they were traveling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge on Doda-Marmat road, here on Tuesday.
Police said that the ill fated bus, (JK02Y-0396) was on its way from Marmat to Doda when it met with the accident at Reyanka. One person died on the spot, while 20 others were injured. The deceased was identified as Javeed Alam son of Ghulam Rasool of Prabble Marmat. As the word about the accident spread in the area locals from both Doda and Marmat rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passengers with the help of police.
However, locals later staged protest accusing the district administration and hospital management of negligence. They alleged that even two hours after the mishap, no ambulance reached the spot and the injured were shifted to the hospital by the locals in their private vehicles.
Meanwhile, Abdul Majid Wani MLA Doda has expressed anguish over the loss of precious lives and injuries to other people in the accident. He asked the Deputy Commissioner Doda to process case for providing ex-gratia relief to the family members of the deceased and all those injured in the accident.
Meanwhile senior National Conference leader Dr Rehmatullah expressed grief over the accident and expressed sympathies with the family of the deceased.
