Save Kupwara Committee threatens agitation

Srinagar, Apr 10: Save Kupwara Committee (SKC) on Tuesday threatened to launch an agitation if government “fails to pay due attention to the district.”
“The Committee, at a meeting held at Dak Bungalow, Kupwara, discussed at length the problems and hardships being faced by the people in the district. The meeting was attended by the representatives of different political parties, traders’ federations and district Bar Association besides other respectable citizens,” a spokesman of SKC said in a statement.
He said the participants demanded construction of power projects at Kambal and Mawar nallahs. They demanded the establishment of separate department for Darangiwari Lolab Tourism Development Authority so that other tourist resorts besides Bangus Valley are identified to promote tourism in the frontier district. They also demanded that the qualified youth be provided government jobs.
“Participants demanded that sufficient quantities of timber should be made available in the district for construction purposes and effective steps taken to put an immediate end to the deforestation in the district. They demanded adequate compensation to flood victims of Keeran, Karnah, Lolab, Kralapora, Trehgam and Ramhaul. They said a great devastation was caused in these areas by the floods in 2010 but till date the victims had not been provided compensation,” the spokesman added.
The meeting alleged that the roads in the whole district were in dilapidated condition, demanding immediate repairs to these roads.
