Bulldozer, vehicles worth millions defunct; SMC knows 4 years later

GK CITY REPORTER

Srinagar, Apr 11: A bulldozer, tipper and dumper bin placer vehicle, something vital for the sanitation and other activities of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation have been lying defunct for the past four years.
Finally, the civic body woke up to discover that it was because of not getting the insurance claims that the vehicles couldn’t be replaced with fresh lot even as it has moved Court against an insurance company for not settling the claims.
This is what one could infer from the official handout released by the SMC which states: “The insurance claim of some of the vehicles which include chain Dozer,Tata tipper and Dumper placer of SMC has not been settled since 25.10.2008 by United India Insurance Company. With the result the corporation is unable to go for further procurement of new chain dozer including the other two machinery highly required for dumping purposes.”
“The Corporation had insured the vehicles through United India Insurance Company branch office main Bazaar Pulwama. The BEML chain dozer which was set ablaze by some miscreants at dumping site Syed Hamidpora Achan was insured for Rs 50 lakh rupees. Similarly covering the other two vehicles Tata tipper and dumper placer with spare accessories and cabins at cost of around 60 lakh are still unsettled,” it added.
“This office time and again requested for settlement of pending claims for last two years with effect from 22.07.2010 and communicated that the  vehicles were damaged but no action was taken,” the SMC handout said.
