11 GAMBLERS HELD: POLICE

Srinagar, Apr 13: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested 11 gamblers from various areas of the City during separate raids.
 When contacted SDPO Khanyar, Tahir Salim Khan said: “Acting on a tip-off, police raided at Ali Mohalla and Aram Mohalla areas of Khanyar  where  the card games were going on and stake money of  Rs. 10,245 were recovered from their possession.”
 Tahir said an FIR Vide No 22/2012 under section 13 Gambling Act has been registered at Khanyar Police Station. The SDPO said the drive against gambling would continue.
 Meanwhile,  police arrested six gamblers from a house in Shivpora. 
 Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by SDPO Nehru Park Ghulam Jeelani raided the house and arrested seven gamblers.
 The team also recovered stake money of Rs 1.55 lakhs. “We have registered an FIR 51/2012 under 3-4 gambling Act against them,” the SDPO said.
