Jammu, Apr 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Branch of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) a premier media school, is all set to start its academic session from this year.
Official sources said that the upcoming Branch of the IIMC, being established in Jammu, will be starting Post Graduate Diploma Course in Journalism (English) in upcoming academic session.
“The infrastructure of the institute is yet to be raised but we are in a process to ensure that this year the institute starts functioning from a rented accommodation”, a senior official in the State Education Department said.
They said that the Government was keen to facilitate the establishment of a regional branch of IIMC in the State for which five to 10 acres of land would be made available near Nagrota in Jammu.
As process of acquiring land is going on, first academic session will be held in rented accommodation, they said adding, temporary accommodation for faculty and students would be arranged till the construction of the building is completed.
The applications for 15 seats of the course already stand advertised by IIMC New Delhi and the classes would start in the last week of July.
Minister for Higher Education Abdul Ghani Malik said the process of land acquisition for the prestigious IIMC is going on and likely to be completed shortly. “After preparing Detailed Project Report, the Government will approach Union Government for releasing funds. New academic session will be arranged in rented accommodation in Jammu till the construction of the building is completed,” Malik told Greater Kashmir.
The IIMC has approved four new regional centres in Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Mizoram and Maharashtra. The Institute presently has branches in New Delhi and Dhenkanal in Orissa.
