Jammu, Apr 15: Ten awardees of the President's Medal for Gallantry (PMG) are among several police officials booked in 241 cases of various crimes and offences in Jammu and Kashmir during past 17 years, state home department officials said.
 Of these, as many as 206 cases under various acts have been registered against police officers in past two years, they said, adding that 100 cases were registered against them in 2010, 99 cases in 2011 and 7 during this year.
 These officials include a Senior Superintendent of Police rank official and a PMG awardee of 1999, currently in jail in connection with fudging of evidence in a murder case.
 Besides him, a 2003 PMG awardee, a 2002 PMG awardee and selection grade constable and a DSP, who was awarded last year, were also found involved in same cases.
 Another Deputy Superintendent of Police rank official and gallantry medal awardee of the year 2005, an assistant sub-inspector awarded in same year, a Selection Grade Constable (awarded PMG in 2004) were booked for their alleged involvement in fake encounter cases, they said.
 Similarly, a head constable (2003 awardee) and a SSP rank official (awarded in 2003) were found involved in murder cases, while an IPS officer, a PMG awardee of 2004, was booked for smuggling charges.
 Out of the 241 cases, 206 of them were lodged during the present government headed by Omar Abdullah.
 Of these cases, Jammu district tops with 48 cases followed by Doda district with 31, Ramban district with 23, Srinagar and Udhampur districts with 16 each, Poonch district with 13,  Islamabad (Anantnag) and Kulgam districts with 9 cases each.
