Reservation debate

This refers to the article "Reservation Remedy" by Hassan Zainagiree (GK, April 13). The writer seems more concerned about the Indian society where caste system is predominant, while in Kashmir reservations fulfill a need. If the reserved candidates sit in the same class, it does not mean that they make-up the loss they have already suffered during the crucial schooling years. The government must check the misuse of reservations. In Kashmir, it is commonly believed that that reserved candidates are not meritorious, which is not true. Reservation should be viewed as a tool to bring the deprived lot on the frontline with others.
