Army major booked for abduction

Srinagar, Apr 17: Police Monday evening arrested an Army Major here for trying to abduct a 12th standard girl from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Police sources said Major Mandeep Choudary of 44 Rashtriya Riffles was arrested from Tourist Reception Center (TRC) here when a girl from Palpora village was found accompanying him.
He has been booked under the charges of abduction vide (FIR No. 29/2012) Under Section 363 in Police Station Kothibagh.
Sources said policemen were on normal duty when some drivers informed them about the duo. Soon a police team led by a police officer from Kothibagh Police Station rushed to the spot and arrested the duo. Both the Major and the girl were taken into custody and are presently lodged in Police Station Kothibagh. Police later informed the parents of the girl.
Sources said that the girl, who has kidnapped by Major Mandeep, lives near Palpora RR camp.
Sources in Army said that Major Mandeep was posted out today after serving his two year tenure in the Valley.
Late Monday evening some Army officers arrived at police station Kothibagh to know about the formalities for his bail
