3 killed, 1 hurt in highway accident
Body Fished Out From Jhelum

Awantipora, Apr 18: Three persons were killed and one critically injured when a tanker collided with a Maruti car at Barsoo near Awantipora on Srinagar-Jammu highway Wednesday morning.
Police said the Maruti car (JK03A 7345) which was carrying four passengers collided with the loaded tanker (JK02K 4427) at 6:30 AM as a result of which two passengers in the car died on the spot. They were identified as Syed Jalaluddin, Syed Tariq Ahmad, residents of Bahi Takyabal Kokernag, Islamabad (Anantnag). Two more passengers namely Muhammad Jabar Sheikh resident of Hari Parigam Tral and Wahid Ahmad Bhat resident of Lidderpora Bijbehara were critically injured. They were shifted to a Srinagar hospital, Muhammad Jabar died on the way.
The deceased Syed Tariq is the first cousin of PDP legislator Peerzada Mansoor Hussain and District and Sessions Judge Ganderbal Syed Tauqeer Hussain. The driver of the tanker fled away from the spot but the truck has been seized by police.
“During the wee hours we heard a huge sound like that of a mine blast. We then came to know that it was an accident.
We along with police removed the bodies from the damaged car and the injured were shifted to Srinagar,” the locals said.
“After getting the information we quickly rushed to the spot and removed two bodies. Two more persons were critically injured and we shifted them to Srinagar but one of them died on the way and the other is stated to be very critical there,” SHO Awantipora Tariq Ahmad said.
“We have registered a case no. 48/12 in the regard. After initial investigation we came to know that the cause of the accident is negligence and fast driving of the truck driver. We have seized the truck but the driver is absconding,” the SHO said.
Meanwhile, Awantipora police today fished out a body from river Jhelum near Chersoo village.
“We have fished out a male dead body aging nearly 48 having beard and wearing a black jacket from river Jhelum near Chersoo village. If anybody has any claim he may come to police station Awantipora with a photograph,” a police official said.
According to family members of Syed Tariq, the Chaharum of the deceased shall be observed on April 21, Saturday at ancestral home Peer Takia, Kokernag.
