Farmers told to cultivate cash crops

Islamabad (Anantnag), Apr 1: DDC Islamabad Kafayat Hussain Rizvi today stressed the need for the farmers to cultivate cash crops.
Addressing a Kissan Mela at Town hall Mattan, here, the DDC said there was immediate need for the farmers to cultivate cash crops.
He, according to an official statement, said diverse cropping pattern and modern farm technology were important to increase productivity and production.
He said the key challenge confronting agriculture sector is to produce more foodgrains for growing population.
Director Agriculture Kashmir Dr Farooq A Lone said that food security, nutrition security, sustainability and profitability should be the main focus of present and future agriculture. At the conclusion of the function DDC and Director Agriculture Kashmir distributed incentive cheques worth Rs 19 lakh among farmers who had purchased farm machinery.
