JKJCCI demands increase in trading days, volume

LoC trade

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Apr 1:  Jammu & Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JKJCCI) today appealed governments of India and Pakistan to increase the number of LoC trading days. The chamber also urged the two governments to allow 350 trucks per week from the current 200 to enhance the trade volume.
President, JKJCCI,  Dr Mubeen A Shah, in a statement said that allowing more trucks will help the traders to manage their stocks and inventory. “Most of the goods traded across the LoC include fresh fruit that will get damaged if not consumed immediately. Therefore, there is need to allow more trucks and increase the tonnage of vehicles as well,” he said.
He said given the volume of traffic, the demand of merchandise from either side of the divide and the number of individuals involved in the trade, “the prevailing limitations are crippling.”
“We demand that the volume of trade and the number of trucks be increased on daily basis. Currently trade is a four day per week exercise and only 50 trucks/day are permitted from either side between Uri and Chakothi.”
Pertinently, a JKJCCI delegation had paid a visit to Slamabad (Uri) on March 25.
“The delegation was pained to see scores of truckload parked at the Salamabad Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) waiting for their turn to take the merchandise to the other part of the J&K,” he said.
