Geelani under house arrest

Srinagar, Apr 19: Authorities have placed the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani under house arrest, the spokesman of the conglomerate, Ayaz Akbar said on Thursday.
“A heavy contingent of police cordoned of Geelani sahib’s Hyderpora residence on Wednesday evening and informed him that he cannot move out,” he said. “Geelani Sahib had announced that he will address a public meeting at TRC here after Friday prayers on April 20. Whenever he announces any programme, he is immediately placed under house arrest. Curbs are put on his movement by the police without any written order from the administration or court.”
“New Delhi and the people who represent it in JK by putting curbs on Geelani Sahib’s political activities have proved that they have accepted defeat and they cannot fight him politically,” Akbar said. “It proves that he is the real representative of Kashmiris and he represents the wishes and aspirations of people.”
The spokesman appealed the Amnesty International visiting team to take serious note of the ‘unjustified’ house arrest of Hurriyat (G) chairman and make world aware about this  ‘lawlessness.’
