JK RTI Movement holds workshop

Shopian Apr 19: In its endeavour to spread awareness of the Right to Information Act (RTI), the Jammu and Kashmir RTI Movement organized a workshop in Government Degree College Shopian on Thursday.
The workshop was attended by a large number of students, college faculty and members of civil society.
Convener J&K RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat in his address stressed upon the Government to create awareness about RTI Act at grassroots level. “Ironically despite passing of over three years of enactment of the RTI Act in the State, the Government has not organized even a single programme for people or students,” Dr Muzaffar said.
He appealed the Government and NGOs to come forward for playing their role in making people aware about the RTI Act.
Co-founder of the RTI Movement Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool urged the people particularly students to be a part of the movement against corruption and nepotism.
"We have started RTI Movement in the State six years ago and we have been able to make this a people’s movement without any resources or Government funding. We would like youth to be part of this Movement which will ensure controlling of the corruption and making bureaucrats and politicians accountable before a common man,” Dr Sheikh added.
Founder member of J&K RTI Movement Farooq Ahmad Malik and its District Coordinator RTI Movement Shopian Syed Junaid Andrabi also spoke on the occasion.
Principal Government Degree College Shopian Prof Nazir Ahmad Chirag urged the students to make public authorities accountable by using RTI Act.
