MGNREGA story
This refers to a story in GK magazine. It does not reflect the correct picture. The wages under MGNREGA are fixed by GoI throughout the country. These rates are presently being paid to a worker having job card at Rs 131, which is higher than labour rate fixed by our state at Rs 125. Therefore to say that it is less than the minimum wages fixed by state is not correct. Secondly, the payments are made as per the guidelines of MGNREGA on individual muster sheets after taking measurements of the work executed by him or her. The wages are being paid through bank payee account and credited to the individual account of the worker who draws the amount as per his choice, as and when desired. There are no reports that any labour/ job card holder/worker is being accompanied by Sarpanch or other official and draws the amount with ulterior motives as mentioned in the story. Besides, regular awareness camps and Gram Sabhas are being conducted and people made aware of the programs of the Department, including MGNREGA. In addition, the department is monitoring the execution of works under MGNREGA. We would be grateful if any specific individual case is shared with us, which will enable us to take action under rules.
