Gulposh Colony inundated
Srinagar, Apr 20: Gulposh Colony Chanapora has been inundated for over six months as a portion of abandoned land has turned into a cesspool.
“A lot of water has accumulated in the colony and on rainy days it gets flooded causing immense problems to the residents and passersby,” a delegation of residents told Greater Kashmir.
They said stagnant water has spoiled the residential houses and link roads. “The waterlogging is causing a great threat to the inhabitants, especially school-going children and old age people,” said a resident, Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, adding that higher authorities were aware about the problematic situation but they remained unmoved.
“The Economic Reconstruction Agency has also added to the problem. They are digging the land for laying pipes in the area and the muddy water is creating problems as well,” he said.
Residents said the dewatering motor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation was not catering to the accumulated water. “Inadequate supply of diesel to the dewatering motor is the main problem of its being defunct,” said another resident, Ghulam Muhammad Dar.
The locals appealed the SMC Commissioner Dr GN Qasba to look into the matter.
