Inaugurates Library, Billiard Hall, Restaurant In Jammu Club
Jammu, Apr 20: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today highlighted the need for expansion of healthy social activities and sports in present scenario of faster life style saying the interaction and recreation are elixir for good health.
He said combination of library and indoor games facilities provide opportunity to people for both reading and taking part in sports activities.
While inaugurating conference hall, library, party hall, billiard room and multi cuisine restaurant at Jammu Club here that were constructed at a cost of about Rs. 2.10 crores, the Chief Minister appreciated the management of the Club for the upgradation and improvement of Jammu Club.
“I am glad that your efforts have added so many facilities in the Club and put it on road to becoming one of the best Clubs in the Country”, he said, “it is also hearting to observe that the Club management has maintained and looked after the available facilities in the Club effectively”. He also appreciated the Club for providing maximum funding for its own resources for the construction of facilities relying on government support to the minimum degree. “This type of attitude inculcates sense of ownership in the minds of members and their dependence on government becomes lesser and lesser”, he said adding that he has asked the Amar Singh Club, Srinagar to adopt similar approach.
Principal Secretary Power Development Department, Sudhanshu Pandey who is associated with the development and growth of the Club gave details of the expansion programme of the Club and thanked the Chief Minister who is also President of the Club for inaugurating the facilities and addressing the members.
The Chief Minister went round various facilities added in the Club. He played a shot at the billiard table, inspected library, conference hall and interacted with the members of the Club.
The Chief Minister had inaugurated squash court, swimming pool and health club in 2010 in Club premises.
Honorary Secretary of the Club, Raman Samotra stated that the Club collected Rs. 1.27 crores from the members as development fund and arranged Rs. 33 lakhs out of the fixed deposits while the State Government provided Rs. 50 lakhs for construction of above said facilities in the Club.
