Ujjawal, Rashid shine as India bags overall trophy
2ND SOUTH ASIAN FENCING CHAMPIONSHIP
Jammu, Apr 20: Two senior fencers, Rashid Ahmed and Ujjawal Gupta made Jammu and Kashmir proud by helping India won overall championship trophy in the 2nd South Asian Fencing Championship concluded at Hyderabad yesterday.
While promising Ujjawal won two gold medals in Sabre individual and team events, Rashid clinched a bronze (individual) and gold (team) to guide India gain a lead over opponents for the coveted overall championship trophy. Senior fencer and Sub-Inspector with Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rashid was captain of the Indian team.
According to the reports pouring in, earlier, in the Sabre team event final, India defeated Sri Lanka in a close contest with final score being 45-35.
For overall championship trophy, India secured 53 points. In all, six nations of the South Asia took part in this three-day event held at Hyderabad.
Ujjawal Gupta, who is a student of Post Graduate Department of Zoology, was sponsored by the University of Jammu for this international event.
