Altaf reviews functioning of SFC

Jammu, Apr 21: Minister for Forest and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad today asked the officers of State Forest Corporation (SFC) and Forest Department to make advance planning and preparation for marking and extraction of timber for distribution among the consumers of the State.
 This was stated by the Minister while reviewing the physical and financial achievements of the SFC at a meeting held here today.
 The meeting was informed that the SFC has generated revenue of Rs 81.93 crore during 2011-12.
 During the meeting, the Managing Director SFC briefed the meeting about the steps being initiated by the Corporation for improving the dividends of the Company and said more initiatives are being taken to improve financial health of the corporation.
 It was decided in the meeting that the Forest Department and SFC would jointly inspect the job of marking of trees by May 10, 2012.
 He instructed SFC and Forest department for early marking and extraction of timber from forests so that it could be dumped in forest sale depots as early as possible for further distribution among the consumers in time.
 He also directed the officers to ensure adequate stock of timber for public consumption.
 The meeting decided that the SFC would open more sale outlets at appropriate locations to meet the requirement of people.
 The Minister asked the officers to encourage registration of private sale timber depots for sale of imported timber so that it will minimize the pressure on forests.
