Bita Karatey arrested
Srinagar, Apr 21: Police on Friday night arrested the chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (R) Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bita Karatey from his residence at Bemina here, a spokesman of JKLF ( R ) said in a statement.
“Bita Karatey was arrested by the police during nocturnal raids and taken to some unknown destination. Prior to Karatey’s arrest, the police raided the house of Front district president for Srinagar Muhammad Rafiq Dar,” said the spokesman, adding that the operation was jointly carried out by the Police and CRPF men.
“Police were conducting raids to arrest Bita Karatey for the past 10 days,” he said. “Karatey was arrested for raising his voice against the human rights violations.”
Terming Karatey’s arrest as “undemocratic and condemnable” step, the spokesman alleged that the police was using these methods to gag the voice of political leaders.
