Restore JK’s special status: CWFI

Srinagar, Apr 22: A prominent Construction Workers Union on Sunday called for restoration of JK’ special status and civil rights of people.
Addressing a news conference here, Debajan Chakarbarti General Secretary of Construction Workers Federation of India (CWFI) said that civil rights as well as special status guaranteed to JK in Indian Constitution should be restored.
“JK enjoys special status under Article 370, but the position has been eroded with passage of time. Time has come to restore the special status so that Kashmiris would live with dignity,” he said.
Meanwhile the handout issued by organization stated that its president R Singeravelu has said that “oppressive” security apparatus is a constant source of “ irritation” and“ anger” for the people.
“Central Government has not acted upon the assurances which it gave in the aftermath of the mass protests in 2010. We extend our support to the demands of gradual withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and investigations into the excesses committed by forces,” Singeravelu added.
