Gear up Administration
Political rhetoric is no answer to the problems confronting the people. Corruption, unemployment, administrative procrastination, lack of accountability, soaring prices, messy traffic, lack of civic amentias and bad roads - the state appears dysfunctional everywhere. Instead of addressing these problems, the top coalition leadership is busy in blame game. To distract people’s attention the coalition leaders have been agitating the issues of power sharing publicly thus sending bad signals to the administration and contributing to administrative inefficiency. Notwithstanding government making tall claims about providing jobs to educated so far it has failed to create any new jobs. Ironically, it has failed to fill up over hundred thousand vacant positions in various departments and more than seventy-five percent vacancies are yet to be referred to the recruiting agencies. Many important departments in the government are without top officers. A score of officers hold charge of two to three departments. There is no interface between the administration and the people. Disconnected from the people the top bureaucracy is living in ivory towers. It also has no supervision over the subordinate offices. Lacking coordination most of the government offices in the state are working as islands adversely affecting the development of the state. Many a project, despite liberally funded by the central government, fail at execution because of this lack of coordination between various limbs of the administration. There is no price control mechanism in place in the state resulting in unchecked prices. Health services are in a total disarray. Most of the government run hospitals are neck-deep in problems. The glaring example is the Kashmir divisions is the only children hospital that has been in the news now for past many years for it having become hazardous for children. Same is the case with any other wing of the government. This kind of a situation can easily lead to larger problems in the political realm. The government needs to make all out endeavors for preserving the peace by addressing people’s problems.
