Dear home
You are so far yet so close
MUSINGS BY FALAK BASU
“You are where my heart resides, you are where my soul stays. You are the memory that follows me by.”
What do I tell you, my home, how it is to be away from you. I feel like I have been robbed of something I badly need. How do I express the feeling when the classes are over and I realize that I have no home to go back to? It is very difficult to get over the feeling of missing you, especially when I am sick and there is no one to look after me.
I miss you when I don’t find anyone to ask me how my day was. I don’t like Saturdays and Sundays anymore. I miss the lanes that lead me to you, my home. I miss the old fashioned gate and its broken handle. I miss that pomegranate tree in the corner of the lawn. I miss the old cycle lying in the backyard. I miss the wooden stairs which led to that small and dark lobby. My head keeps turning back to you. I miss you so very badly.
I fancy being away from you, having fun and living life. I thought of freedom, staying up till late, having parties, hanging out with friends to be happy and to have peace of mind, but this did not give any solace. There is so peace in being away from home. They say “mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam, be it ever so humble there is no place like home.” O my dear home...I long to be there again. I want somebody to take me back and land me where I came from.
I want somebody to turn the clock around, and let me be who I was.
