Santosh Trophy trials conclude

Srinagar, Apr 24: The J&K Football Association on Tuesday announced list of selected players who will represent State in upcoming Santosh trophy national football championship here on Tuesday.
The list includes 24 selected players and three officials which include coach and manager. The players were selected during three day selection trials held at Polo ground.
For the trials the JKFA had selected 60 probable out of which only 50 footballers from all over State participated. Among the 50 probable, selectors have short listed 24 for the 15-day coaching camp that will started from Tuesday.
The Santosh trophy for national football championship is scheduled to be held in Traphu Cuttack Odhissa from May 10. JK would be playing its first match against Arunachal Pradesh on May 13 and second on May 15 against Maharashtra.
The Association has appointed JK Police coach, Ranjit Singh as the coach of team while first International footballer of State Muhammad Shafi Nari has been appointed as manager. Ashiq Hussain has been appointed as Physiotherapist.
On the first day of the camp coach appointed had to rush for Jammu due to demise of his relative. In his absence the coaching role was taken by former Indian football team captain Abdul Majeed Kakroo.
Giving details JKFA spokesperson said, “The team selected is mixture of experience and youth. It balanced team and we are hoping they will bring laurels for State in the event”.
“The chief coach had to leave for Jammu today as one of his relative has passed away there. In his absence we requested Abdul Majeed Kakroo to take as coaching role till he returns. He readily accepted it,” he added.
