JK to host 4th National Climbing Championship: Chib
Jammu, Apr 26: Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib on Thursday said that Jammu and Kashmir would host 4th North Zone Climbing Championship this year.
This was stated by the Minister after inaugurating 2-day 12th Jammu District Sport Climbing (JDSC) Championship at R S Pura.
The Minister appreciated the contribution of the Association for promoting adventure sports in the state. He said the state has produced reputed climbers who made a mark at national level. He said the adventure sports are gaining popularity among the youth, which proving helpful for generating employment avenues.
Underscoring the need for popularizing adventure sports in the state, Chib said, J&K is the choicest destination to the visitors’ world-over and promotion of adventure sports will boost the state’s economy.
The Minister asked the Association for organizing similar championships in other districts to attract more youth towards the sports as these inculcate confidence, endurance and spirit of exploration.
The championship was organised by Jammu & Kashmir Mountaineering Association in collaboration with Montessori Nargus Dutt Public School R Pura. As many as 200 climbers from across the district would participate in six categories of men, women, boys, girls, sub-junior boys and girls in Lead and Speed climbing.
Later, the Minister honoured the best climbers who have brought laurels to the state at national level.
Among others, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Kiran Wattal, SDM, R S Pura Suraj Parkash were present.
