Stop littering, keep surroundings clean!

Dr Qasba’s mantra to get rid of dog menace

GK CITY CORRESPONDENT

Srinagar, Apr 26: Mired amid growing reports of dog attacks in this summer Capital, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Commissioner, Dr GN Qasba Thursday pitched a mantra for the City dwellers hoping that it would help get rid of the alarming dog menace.
Dr Qasba said the biggest problem with the City sanitation was that of littering as heaps of garbage, including food lie along the streets.
“People have a habit of throwing garbage including food waste on the streets, which ultimately becomes a breeding ground for dogs. If this habit is given up, the dogs will leave the clean areas looking for food in the unclean areas,” Dr Qasba explained.
The said the same was true for the Naseem Bagh Colony where he resides saying: “You’ll hardly find a dog there as we the residents don’t throw any garbage on the streets. And this sustained activity made most dogs migrate,” he said.
He conveyed the same to the people during his visit to south City, first ever since he assumed charge at the civic body.
Dr Qasba toured Barzulla, Hyderpora, Tengpora and Sanat Nagar to take a stock of sanitation measures even as he asked the shopkeepers to avoid roadside display of commodities.
The Airport Road residents of Parray Pora, Hyderpora and Pirbagh appealed him that the roadside dumper binds be shifted elsewhere whereas residents of Nadir Gund, Hyderpora said there was a dire need of a dumper bin in the area adding that space was available for that.
Dr Qasba said the problems would be mitigated. He also visited Shaher-e-Khaas areas including Safakadal and Saikidafar where he took a stock of ongoing construction of some buildings and directed officials to intensify the anti-encroachment drive in these area.
“He appealed the shopkeepers to refrain from encroaching upon roads which chokes the pedestrian space and is a main cause of traffic chaos in the City,” an official handout said.
