RR shopkeepers stage protests against drainage mess
GK CITY REPORTER
Srinagar, Apr 27: The Residency Road shopkeepers on Friday staged protests against the defunct drainage system in the City centre area where sewage often overflows the streets of this plush road.
With this being the plight of civic amenities in the heart of the City, the scene elsewhere can only be imagined.
Holding placards and keeping their nose covered to avoid stench, the shopkeepers asked: “When its nauseating for we people to come to this area why will a customer visit our shops?”
The shopkeepers led by their association President Manzoor Ul Haque said: “This muck outside our shops speaks volumes of government concern towards the City centre.”
“Though we tried to contact many including some Mantris and even SMSed them our grievances, there was no response from anybody including UEED,” he added.
The traders appealed SMC Commissioner Dr GN Qasba to interfere and personally visit the spot
