Valley to observe World Veterinary Day

Srinagar, Apr 27: Department of Animal Husbandry is celebrating World Veterinary Day on April 28. The aim of celebrating the day is to create awareness and educate/motivate people about the programmes being implemented in the animal husbandry sector.
The theme of the Day is “Antimicrobial Resistance” to highlight global concern over the use of antimicrobial in food producing animals and the important role veterinarians’ play in appropriate use of antibiotics to treat animal disease.
The Animal Husbandry Department of the State is calling for more measures to combat antimicrobial resistance arising concern for both human and animal health, which include rigorous infection control practices and judicious selection and use of antibiotics works to reduce the spread of resistant bugs, an official statement said.
It said the department is creating awareness about hygienic food preparation and proper cooking of animal products.
“There should be most stringent systems for registering antimicrobials for use in animals, antibiotics important in human medicine should not be registered for use in animals,” it said.
