AKS Club lifts Young Hero’s Hockey trophy

Hiranagar, Apr 28:  Akali Kour Singh (AKS) Club today lifted the Young Hero’s Memorial Hockey Tournament trophy outplaying local side of Young Hero Club 3-2 through a golden goal that came in extra time in the well contested final at sports stadium, here.
 Earlier, in the stipulated time, the match ended in 2-2 draw with both sides playing an equally good hockey in front of a healthy crowd. Earlier, Young Hero took the first lead with Varinder Singh sounding the board in the 20th minute. But the lead was soon equalized by Sartaj netting the ball in 27th minute.
 Entering into the second half with game tied at 1-1, AKS went ahead when Sukhwinder Singh beat the goal keeper in 47th minute, but only to find Varinder Singh equalizing the score on board. Varinder Singh converted a well calculated pass from right flank into goal in the 55th minute to make it a 2-2 draw.
 Before applying the tie-breaker rules, the organizers provided extra time to the finalist teams wherein AKS Club emerged winner. Sukhwinder Singh scored the golden goal in 5th minute of the extra time to guide his side to victory.
 Minister of State for Cooperatives, Dr Manohar Lal was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. Member Legislative Council, Subash Gupta and Additional Conservator of Forests, MJ Sharma were guests of honour.
 This tournament was organized by Young Hockey Club Hiranagar under the aegis of Hockey Jammu and Kashmir under the overall supervision of Jaswant Singh.
