Arshad, Rafi’s brilliance saw team home

GK LIONS XI TROUNCE GK WARRIORS XI

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Apr 28: An unbeaten opening stand of 98 runs between Arshad Me’raj and Muhammad Rafiq Wani Saturday saw Greater Kashmir Lions XI thrash Greater Kashmir Warriors XI in a friendly match here at Naqshband Sports Stadium Radpora.
While Arshad who made an unbeaten 57 runs was ruthless with his stroke making particularly on the off-side, Rafiq equally supported him with unbeaten 38 to chase down the target in 11th over.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first in the 20-over match, GK Warriors XI led by Qazi Manzoor was bundled out on 96 runs in 19th over.
Reshi Javed with 21 runs was the highest scorer from GK Warriors XI followed by Rouf Pal with 20 runs and Abid Khan with 16 runs.
From GK Lions XI, Mudassir Ali, Mohsin Khan and Bilal Ahmad Rather took two wickets each. The wickets fell at regular intervals for the Warriors which did not allow the team to build long partnerships.
Chasing the target, Greater Kashmir Lions XI  led by Hamid Makdhoomi opening pair of Arshad Me’raj and Muhammad Rafiq took on the opposite team bowlers from the very first over.
In his 57 run knock, Arshad hit some delightful strokes through the off-side winning the praise of even the opposite camp.
The stroke making by Arshad and Rafi did not allow the opposite team bowlers to settle down on a particular line and length. Both the batsmen hit boundaries all around the wicket, chasing successfully the target in 12th over and winning the match by ten wickets.  While Arshad scored seven hits across the boundary, Rafi was equally good with four boundaries.
The match proved one-sided game as Greater Kashmir Warriors XI failed to put a show. Their bowlers failed them, particularly.
The players were later felicitated by GK Photo Editor Habib Naqash who was the chief guest on the occasion.
The players of both teams have thanked the officials of the Naqshband Sports Stadium Radpora for their support and cooperation in organizing the match.
