PROCESS TO BE COMPLETED BY DECEMBER THIS YEAR

Jammu, Apr 28: Electrification of the Jammu-Pathankot railway track is all set to be completed by December this year, officials said.
“The work on electrification of Jammu-Pathankot railway track is on full swing. By end of this year, Indian Railways will complete the electrification of this track, allowing the trains to run on electricity to ferry passengers on this important route”, Jagdev Kalia, General Manager of Central Organization of Railway Electrification (CORE) Allahabad told media persons here today.
Jagdev was on one day visit to Jammu to take stock of the pace of railway electrification projects in the sections between Jammu-Udhampur and Udhampur-Katra.
He said Detailed Project Report for the electrification of Jammu-Udhampur railway track has been completed and it has been approved by the Central Government.
“The electrification of the track will be completed by year 2014,” he said.
Earlier Jagdev along with high level team of CORE conducted on-the-spot assessment of various electrification projects in Jammu, Udhampur and Katra railway lines.
Jagdev instructed the concerned railway officials to speed up the work so that the whole electrification work in entire Jammu and Kashmir will be completed within stipulated time.
“It is not easy for them to undertake all electrification works in all railway lines in J&K, considering the tough topography of the state. However, I assure that the Union Railway Ministry would overcome these challenges,” he said.
Jagdev further said that he would again visit the State next month to take stock of progress on the electrification projects.
“The Union Railway Ministry has allotted adequate funds for the whole projects across the country. Thus the availability of the funds is not a hurdle in the electrification work,” he said.
Pertinently, the work for electrification of Jammu-Udhampur Railway line was awarded to the CORE by the Railway Board about six months ago. However, the work could not be started immediately because of numerous tunnels and bridges on the track.
