Uri Premier League cricket tournament begins
Srinagar, Apr 29: Uri Premier League (UPL) organised by Army under the aegis of Uri Brigade started at Uri Saturday.
The Uri Premier League is a run up to Kashmir Premier League which is to be conducted at Srinagar in the month of June. In the event around 24 teams from Uri tehsil are participating. In an impressive and exciting inauguration ceremony the tournament was declared open on Saturday by SDM Uri Ashiq Hussain.
SDM, Uri addressed the teams and the spectators, who had assembled in large numbers from neighbouring villages since early morning.
This initiative by the Army will help in discovering new talent and reviving the passion for cricket amongst locals, a defence handout said.
The inaugural match was played between the teams of Dhanni Sayidan and Uri Star Uri. The excitement and exuberance was clearly visible in the eyes of all the spectators and they keenly await for the remaining matches and pray for victory of their respective favourite teams, handout said.
